diagnostic display (see graphics how to read that one).
What I did to repair: Remove the cover at the bottom of the flapper (1 screw), and you see a pair of wires going to the bottom end of the heater built into the flapper. Turns you can pull down the heater - pulling it down just a little makes it much easier to disconnect the plug. Once disconnected, I measured resistance of heater as 38ohm. Odd, because other sources (including AI and youtube videos) suggest it should be 15ohm...
Next I remove the cover at the top of the left door - there you can unplug the connector, and access the wire going to the heater. A paper clip slides nicely into the end of the connector (both top and bottom end), and I was able to confirm that one of the wires has an open circuit with my multimeter. Pulling (hard) on that wire reveals where the wire is broken.
I removed the flapper (first remove the spring), and then you can see where the wire comes from: from behind the door seal (see photo). With the wire separated at the break, I pushed some heatshrink over one end, soldered them back together, and moved the heatshrink to cover it up. That fixed it! (fingers crossed this lasts the remaining life of the fridge)
Final comment to Fisher & Paykel: the flimsy thin/poor quality wire is pre-programmed to fail eventually, as it has to make the 90deg move of the flapper every time you open/close the left door.

then try to reassemble? A nightmare. Yes, there are videos and instructions. The videos are poor quality, too fast and ignore or skip over essential bits. A power failure happened while I was away and the freezer had to be taken apart to clean. I discovered later that F&P ‘do not recommend’ that you do this. What you are supposed to do when you have a freezer part full of tomato gunk that defrosted, ran everywhere inside and then refrozen is ignored. I had to finally get a technician in at considerable expense to do it, after I and others had spent enormous time and effort trying to follow the skimpy instructions. I am now stuck again, dammit, after the veggie containers needed to be thoroughly cleaned. I simply canNOT figure out how to get 2 little plastic clips back and into their places and nothing will work until or unless I do. It’s enough to make me buy a new fridge and no, I won’t be buying F&P again. Pity, I was a long term customer until this fridge. Terrible.

for what should be a long-term appliance. What makes this worse is the terrible service I’ve received trying to get it repaired. I contacted the repairs team and have been repeatedly put off, with no real sense of urgency or accountability. I’ve now been told I have to wait three weeks just for a repair to be organized. Not completed—just organized. I’ve explained multiple times that this is a fridge, a basic household necessity, and that we can’t go without one for weeks. They clearly do not care. Their attitude shows a complete lack of respect for the customer and no understanding of how important timely service is when it comes to appliances like this. This has been an incredibly frustrating experience, and I would strongly caution anyone against buying this product. Poor build quality, and even worse after-sales support. Avoid.

Request to speak to a manager were ignored. 3 weeks after lodging the warranty we still don't have a fridge and are told it will be another week. At this stage we just need a fridge and have requested a refund so that we can just go and buy a new fridge, but this required manager approval, but he won't return our calls. Wont be buying Whirlpool again.
UPDATE 7 Weeks have now passed with countless hours and outright lies from Arisit (The warranty provider) and the replacement fridge has finally been delivered.... To the wrong service agent. And yes we had to chase it up with the courier to find this out. Arisit should have know this was the wrong service agent as he refused the job request 7 weeks ago, and would not answer any calls from Arisit. One can only wonder how long the fridge would have sat in someone's driveway if we had not contacted the courier directly. Given the incredible effort we have made to progress the warranty claim this far, I feel certain that the warranty would never have been honoured if we had just lodged via standard process. There is no way to contact Whirlpool to let them know about this warranty service disaster. I hope that they are reading this and reach out to us. we have lost a lot of food and during a hot summer 2 months is a long time to be without a fridge... Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of Whirlpool warranty disaster.

Consumer Law) we purchased an extra Warranty for three years. Towards the end of the 2 Year Warranty, the fridge stopped. Wiring had broken connecting the front control panel on right door, at hinge point. The wire had been put on too tight. Last week, the light went off, when the fridge door was opened. Strange? My husband turned it off, then back on again. And the light continued working. But - inside started to smell like something had rotted. And the TOP SECTION OF THE FRIDGE IS NOT COOLING. Thank God, THE FREEZER DRAW SECTION IS STILL WORKING (for how long??) I went into the Haier site to complain. Surprisingly, I was told by the Haier Service Agent - and I quote, as follows;- For your model, there is a known issue where the defrost system can cause evaporator icing, leading to a loss of cooling in the fridge section. Haier has issued Field Fix Kit to resolve this, which includes a replacement power board, defrost fuse, and a PE pad, along with instructions to remove any ice buildup. End of quote. We may have to pay for call out, because our Warranties have ended. We are 58 days out of All the Warranties. Is Haier operating a "Planned Obsolescence"? Here is what my husband and I want. We demand to have our fridge replaced. Failing that - as a token of goodwill - we want the Field Fix Kit installed in our fridge - AT NO COST TO OURSELVES. Two Major failures in just over 5 years IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH! We were delighted when we first for this Fridge! It absolutely ticked all our boxes. And now, it's just another drain on our life. P.s.If there is a Field Kit, for our fridge, obviously because Many, many others, have had this issue, why didn't Appliances Online contact us, to let us know? Or, do they simply wait until everything in the fridge perishes, we start screaming and THEN the act? Doesn't seem like Good Customer Service either. P.p.s. attached is a photo of our Kelvinator Fridge. Impression Series 300. It's what we're using now to tide us over until the Haier is fixed. How old is our Kelvinator, you may ask? Well, it was part of a pigeon pair when we moved into our house in 1980 - they MOST CERTAINLY DO NOT make White Goods like they used to. *Sigh*
Update;- so Haier will send a tech - at no cost to us - on the 13/01/25.... I think I deserve a New Fridge!! All those in favor raise your hand.

It’s also super slow at making ice and runs out so fast. We are lucky and have another really good ice maker in our other fridge. Australian made Westinghouse one that literally dropped the ice maker front due to rust. It did very well so, ultimately, no complaints after 16 years. The internal space is great. Extra drawer is, legitimately, wonderful. It fits so much. Thoroughly researched at the time and the pickings are slim now. Electrolux do so much rebadging nowadays. They still actually make these fridges. It came down to this or Fisher and Paykel (i.e: Haier with a rebadge). And I’d never go near F&P again.
Also, very conscious that, in dishwasher land Electrolux went to cheap imports from Turkey and are now selling Midea Chinese units under the Westinghouse brand in Australia. So was glad to find this one is actually made by Electrolux.
I don’t really know if it will last as a fridge but the pickings are slim nowadays. In the here and now it’s great. As stated, exterior dark paint is already failing . It does keep chucking ice and seems a swift cut quality wise above the rest.
Bitterly disappointed that Electrolux is churning towards the bottom with some of their other brands. This still seems to be Electrolux quality. The same fridge can be had as a Westinghouse, the same brand can be had as an Aussie made oven: try buying a replacement for a dishwasher and, with Dishlex reliability (sigh) now gone and AEG not getting traction (you’d surely go Miele for a few bucks more at the price point), then this fridge stacks up in the space for what we paid.
Electrolux need to sort their branding in Australia. We used to rely on this brand and their family brands. Seeing some of their rebadged products has really put me off them. The fridge may be an exception. Time will tell! It was this or an LG.

Up top the shelves move up or down but they also have a neat hinge you lift so bottles can fit, without moving the shelf up. Clever design, It’s the sheer choice of what you want and it’s just there. Wine holders drop down up top. The crisper is keeping everything fresh. The snack compartment is great for berries or chocolate treats. The plumbed water and ice is a must in Queensland, the grey metal doesn’t show up finger marks. And it’s so quiet. Energy efficient 3.5 ⭐️ esp when you aren’t opening four doors. Just the one. Then water would leak down from the ice dispenser and leak all of the floor. During these changes there was also strange noises coming from the fan motor at the back of the fridge. Seemed like something was stuck in the blade. Called Westinghouse tech and nothing could be booked for months; so we called a refrigerator mechanic to check it out. He removed the back panel of fridge where fan sat and saw it has frozen over, caused the fan to stop working and cooling the fridge. worked reasonably for 6 months then same problem has occurred x3 times over next 2 years (roughly 6 months apart)
This fridge freezer is meant to be a frost free and goes through automatic defrost . It’s so frustrating. Had to get rid of so much food on several occasions. Fruit and veg freezes and then it spoils. Who else has had this issue? What else can we do besides getting it serviced every 6 months?
Aren’t these fridges meant to last at least 10 + years. Seems like they don’t make them like they used to. My parents fridge lasted them 35 years. No issues with there’s until end when their motor died.

Was looking for a refrigerator to replace our existing one. Criteria was to be silver, over 600L capacity, French Doors and have inbuilt filtered… Read more
water and ice-making capabilities (plumbed). One such fridge that (almost) met this criteria was the Samsung SRF7500BB. This was a “black” fridge which we were not happy about (always had white then silver) but it met all other criteria and was currently "on special". Turned out it was finished in a smooth “anti-fingerprint” finish that was more grey than black. Additionally, numerous random but close spaced horizontal lines “broke” the surface and we have grown to quite like this finish. I have attempted to show it in an attached photo but you will need to allow for reflections which can’t be avoided on the smooth satin finish.
SETTING UP - Upon delivery we were left to hook it up to our existing electrical wall outlet preinstalled plumbing outlet (must have for this fridge). Next, needed to remove the protector plastic from the drawers and shelves and insert them into place. We were told to let it sit and settle in place for a couple of hours before turning it on. Once this was done, it took an hour or two to reach set operating temperatures. Therefore, make sure you have provision to store your fridge contents for a few hours. We had old polystyrene foam boxes which we fitted out with ice bricks plus we could store frozen contents in a freezer we had in the garage. I did notice it took a day for the temperatures to stabilise throughout the new fridge as evidenced by a manual thermometer I was able to move around inside to check. To completely fill the two ice trays took the fridge close to four days but to do the same now only requires a solid two days.
OPERATION - Controls are minimal and hidden down in the hinge area of the right fridge door. A digital readout supplies both the fridge and freezer temperatures as well as being able to turn on/off the water jug and the ice-makers. It will also alert you if the water filter needs replacing as well as the ability to “snooze” the alert. You can also activate “Power Cool” and “Power Freezing” for rapid temperature drops. Should note that after setting the desired fridge and freezer temperature, both the readouts then revert to displaying the actual temperatures in the fridge. While placing the controls inside the fridge (as opposed to being on the outside of a door) makes them slightly less accessible, that is also an advantage giving a minimalist appearance. Opening the doors is achieved by placing your fingers under the two doors (top of for two freezer doors) to access the recessed handles. Be aware the doors are not fully self closing but need to be pushed to overcome resistance for the last 6cm or so of travel. There is, however, an alarm that sounds if the door is left open (except for the Beverage Door which does not alert you and needs a firm push to close as it uses a physical latch.
BEVERAGE CENTRE – This fridge features a “beverage centre” which is essentially a door in a door. Its handle is also recessed and sits alongside the handle to open the left refrigerator door. This exposes the Beverage Centre which consists of a cold water dispenser, a 1.4L water jug (BPA free with infuser) and two shelves to store drinks. You won’t fit bottles (these can be put in the right hand door) as one is 21cm tall and the other is 14cm tall but it is useful for cans and glasses. Each time the jug is returned to the fridge it automatically “tops up” to full with cold filtered water. Should note that the fridge has a filter for the water jug, ice cubes and cold water dispenser that needs to be replaced about every six months (Samsungs recommended time based on average use). There will be a warning for when this is needed on the control panel. Surrounds for the cold water dispenser are all plastic so won’t have the issue we experienced on the previous fridge with surface rust forming around the base of the dispenser. There are two removable ice trays as the freezer makes two different size ice. The one on the left creates a tray of standard size ice cubes while the one to its left creates smaller ice (approx. 2cm x 1.5cm x 1.5cm) which Samsung calls “Ice Bites”. The freezer monitors levels in these trays and automatically tops them up as needed. The ice drops into the tray from above about every six to eight hours. Curiously, the “Ice Bites” frequently drop into the tray as a group looking like a frozen chocolate bar (see attached photo). As I said earlier, it takes a solid two days to fully refill if you empty them. The only downside I have encountered is the fridge fills the two trays to capacity. Whilst they are removable, I usually just use the supplied scoop to get the ice while the trays are still in place. Samsung decided to make the tray sides all the same height so inevitably when scooping, some ice will fall over the back of the tray and into the drawers below. Only a small issue but easily fixed if the back of the trays were higher.
NOISE – This is without doubt the quietest fridge/freezer I have ever had. Even in a quiet night time environment it is completely silent. The exception, of course, is the infrequent sound of ice dropping into trays (with the subsequent sound of running water as they refill) along with that of the jug when it is refilling. If you are looking for a quiet fridge this is it.
OVERALL – Have no regrets purchasing this fridge. It works well and goes about its business in the quietest way possible. Adjustability of internal shelving is good and you should have no issue fitting tall items. It has two flush mounted, bright white, LED interior lights that leaves no dark corners and comes with a two year warranty (ten years on the compressor). Based on my experience over the last five months, I would recommend this refrigerator.
WHAT I LIKED:- Quiet operation, Dual ice makers, Inbuilt water jug and water dispenser, External satin grey “faux textured” finish, bright spacious interior.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:- Backs of ice trays should be higher, Doors not fully self closing, Don’t forget you will need to have it plumbed into your house plumbing, Noise from ice falling can be startling in a quiet house at night until you get used to it (Yes, I really am battling to find things I don’t like)

of the crispers. This is very disappointing, I would not have expected such a deterioration in so short a time. I phoned customer service and they were absolutely no help at all, we had our previous fridge for 16 years and it did not develop any problems. We don’t know if the cracks will get worse or if they affect the operating of the fridge in some way. Not happy, be careful buying this fridge.
Should I get a French door fridge?
A French door refrigerator has double doors that open up to a continuous fridge space and a freezer drawer at the bottom. Below we go through some pros and cons of French door fridges so you can see whether this type of refrigerator is right for your household.
How much space does a French door fridge offer?
French door fridges are large and offer lots of storage space. These types of fridges are ideal for households of at least 4+ people.
French door fridges usually have larger door bins than regular fridges, and their increased width makes it easier to store wide dishes or platters in them.
What fridge capacity do I need?
The capacity of your fridge should largely be determined by how many people will be using the fridge. The following table offers a rough fridge size guide based on the number of people in your household.
| Number of people in household | Recommended fridge volume |
|---|---|
| 1 to 2 people | 250 to 380L |
| 3 to 4 people | 350 to 540L |
| 5 or more people | 500+L |
How long should a French door fridge last?
Like most other fridges, a French door refrigerator should last around 10 to 20 years. If any problems occur while under warranty, then it’s best to contact the manufacturer.
However, if your fridge is not still under warranty, then in the long run, it may be more worthwhile to purchase a new fridge rather than spend a large amount of money trying to fix the problem.
How much does a French door fridge cost?
French door fridges don’t come cheap but aren’t as expensive as bottom mount fridges. You won’t find a French door fridge for under $1000. For a French door fridge, you'll need to consider paying between at least $1000, and around $10,000.
For the price you’re paying for a fridge in this price range, you want it to be able to cater to more than just a couple of people - and luckily it does.
Other things to consider when choosing a French door fridge
Size
It's important to measure the fridge cavity in your kitchen so you know the limits of what you can buy. When choosing a fridge, measure the sides, top and rear and allow for some room so there's space for the motor to vent heat.
You should also measure your front door and any hallways you need to take your fridge through, so you can actually get your new fridge into your kitchen.
Features
Look out for features that can make your fridge easier, safer or more efficient to use.
- Wine rack: This dedicated space makes it easier to store bottles of wine, rather than precariously stacking them on top of other things in your fridge.
- Display panel: A display panel lets you easily adjust the temperature and other settings.
- Water and ice dispenser: If you want cool drinks on demand, an in-built water and ice dispenser can make it easier to feel refreshed.
- Smart fridge: Many newer fridges offer smart features like Wi-Fi connectivity.
- Viewing window: This lets you peek inside the fridge without actually opening the fridge door.
- Frost free: These have built-in technology to prevent the buildup of ice, usually by defrosting itself after a set amount of time.
- Door alarm: This will sound if you've left the fridge or freezer door open for a set amount of time. Some fridges let you choose the amount of time that needs to pass before the alarm sounds.
- Automatic door opening: A feature on some premium models, automatic door opening lets you also open and close your fridge without your hands, such as with a voice command.
- Child proofing: Different fridges can have different child proofing features, such as a lockable medicine cabinet or a child lock on the fridge's temperature controls.
Energy consumption
Given their large size, French door fridges tend to use more electricity than smaller fridges, so it's important to only buy the size you need and no bigger.
Due to factors like improvements in fridge technology, higher regulations and the worsening of insulation over time, newer fridge models tend to be more energy efficient than old ones.
The energy star rating is also helpful to compare relative energy efficiency.
Finish
These types of fridges are available in a variety of colours and finishes, so you can choose an option that suits your kitchen cabinetry, design, countertops and appliances.
Some finishes include:
- Stainless steel: This popular finish is sleek and modern, but can be prone to showing fingerprints and marks. You can, however, find models with fingerprint-resistant finishes.
- Black: Black doesn't show fingerprints as much and is easy to keep clean. You can also get variants like matte black or black stainless steel fridges.
- White: White fridges have a crisp look and tend to be a bit cheaper, and don't show fingerprints as much.
- Coloured fridges: Bright-coloured fridges, such as retro style fridges, are becoming more popular as a statement piece in the kitchen. Keep in mind that a fridge, particularly one that's bought new, is a long-term investment, so many trends may come and go in the time that you have with it.
