support and had an expensive service. Another year later the same issue but now the actual casing is melting due to the heat and we can't use. Reached out again to Breville Support providing the previous case numbers, photos etc. Their response was "Can you tell me what the issue is?" They obviously hadn't read the case (or previous case) notes or looked at the pics or information provided.

Customer "Support" eventually provided a 3rd party service company after requesting again (service provider different to the first time) and a $900 quote later aparantly it's my issue "your responsibility out of warranty" with no regard to fire safety or a faulty machine breaking down every year since purchase. Overheating is a common issue apparantly and Breville ignore the problem and don't stand by their product.

For a $3K machine you would expect it to last longer than 2 years and have ongoing over heating issues every year since to a point where the metal casing is melting.

Do your math before investing in Breville's expensive Coffee Machines. Their products are amazing when they work but they dont work for long and cost a fortune.

It is also dissapointing that they don't care about fire risks and customer safety.

There is so much to like about the Breville BES920 Dual Boiler. It is certainly a tool that can produce pretty good espresso based coffee. From my… Read more

extra lunga macchiato, to various strength Piccolo - plus, cappuccino and creamy flat white. Delicious! Not as fast or as professionally done as a better quality espresso machine - but for its price - excellent. The drawback is that Breville do not build their machines to last. My second machine gave me close to 3 years before the steam wand started dribbling madly. That wasn't too bad, but soon afterwards the machine became unusable due to the geyser emitting from the hot water outlet. At least this machine gave me 3 years - my first gave me less than 2 years before it needed its first repair. Then less than two years again before a waterfall started dripping from most of the way across the front of the machine. So whether it's planned obsolescence; shoddy planning; construction values and/or workmanship - I expected better. Surely at this price it is reasonable to expect that the machine be capable of doing what it's supposedly designed to do for more than 2-3 years. It's supposed to operate under pressure at high temperatures - which it does, but not for very long. Thankfully I still have a plunger and am quite capable at operating that.

used it because of this. I didn't know it should not take that long until I got a cheapy pressure cooker recently. I contacted Breville and as it was just outside of warranty (I paid extra for 2 year warranty too) they wouldn't replace the unit or cover repairs or refund. They offered half off a new replacement unit but why would I want that when it takes so much longer to get up to pressure? I wanted a refund or credit to buy a different Breville product from their webstore like their reliable espresso machines I have owned for many years. For such an expensive appliance this is pathetic after sales service. My Aldi pressure cooker at fraction of the price works faster and better.

an error message 'attach steam tip'? I use the machine for one coffee a day, occasionally two, and it is cleaned and descaled regularly as reminded by the automatically generated message. I contacted Nespresso re this fault, and they were great! I can't fault them. I packed up the machine and took it to the post office to be sent off for repair four days ago, postage is covered by Nespresso. (I had to buy a box and bubble wrap from Bunnings for approx. $6.00). Today I have received notification that it has been fixed and will be delivered back to me today, just in time for the weekend! I have been very happy with my purchase and really impressed that I wasn't out of pocket for the repair, and the quick turnaround. Hopefully my machine will last for many more years.

new.

It has decent enough features and it's always nice being able to instantly steam the milk during or right after pulling a shot. If you're a DIYer you can also implement quite a few mods to give it even more features and functions. For the price this is an excellent machine. Whether this is the best option now in 2025 - probably not but if you do get it know that this coffee machine can pull excellent shots when paired with a more capable grinder and will last quite a while.

The grinder is great for its price and features, but once you delve deeper into the coffee world you will quickly realise its limitations and will eventually be looking for something better.

I regularly bake a loaf every 2 days and have done so for the last 14 odd years. I started with Brevilles entry level but it made terrible bread and… Read more

walked itself off the bench into oblivion. I then switched to Panasonic SD-2501 which was flawless and lasted 7 years before the electronics died. I replaced it with a Panasonic SD-R2530WST which although noisy mixing lower hydration dough worked fine for 72% for 6 or so years until the non-stick surface deteriorated.

As the pan and paddle are so expensive I just bought another Panasonic SD-R2530WST but I quickly had to return it within weeks due to extremely high pitched screaming noises when mixing. The replacement Panasonic SD-R2530WST also did the same thing so I ended up returning that as well.

Sick of Panasonics clear poor quality I ended up replacing it with a Breville Custom Loaf Pro which after 4 months of working flawlessly developed a severe loud knocking noise only when mixing anti-clockwise. Still under warranty I got another replacement but that is also knocking badly during mixing anti-clockwise after only 5 months of making 65% hydration bread.

It appears to me that The Breville Custom Loaf Pro has a severe design fault and I think the belt is possibly stretching after 45 odd loaves are made and when spinning anti-clockwise a very loud knocking noise will develop as the belt slips. You can see evidence of this issue on Youtube so its quite common.

Unfortunately I believe this machine is a gimmick and not designed for anyone serious about making lots of loaves. With what I have experienced now I'm convinced a good quality bread machine no longer exists and the discontinued Panasonic SD-2501 was the last good quality one made.

I will inevitably return this one as well and just put the money towards a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer with Lift Bowl then use my oven. Corporate greed has killed the bread machine. RIP bread machine.

I bought this machine to replace my Barista Express (which has been falling apart on me gradually over 5 years), so I'm uniquely placed to offer a… Read more

comparison if you are trying to decide between models.

Know that any of these machines are probably going to die within 3-5yrs, and its a bit of luck which component dies as to whether the machine is still usable.. and its unlikely a repair is worth while.. so although I am a fan of the Pro... there is definitely merit in buying the Express version because the $ value is superb.

But.. there are many reasons why you might choose the Barista Pro.. the biggest ones are it has a better grinder (vs the express which was a bit crude and got out of alignment from time to time), the Pro also heats up near instantly which is a luxury but still nice.. but more importantly its a more even heat which in theory (and according to reviewers) means less randomness when you pull a shot.. its just a better machine...

I stressed out when I first used the Pro, because a) the grouphead wont even turn beyond a few degrees.. I dunno why Breville make their machines so tight to use, but you don't actually need to turn it far, just if its snug its fine.. it will loosen up over the years.. but also when I first started making coffee my coffee was coming out terribly.. like.. even after dialling everything in, only a small volume was coming out.. I thought my machine was defective.. BUT... here is the cool thing about the pro.. you can manually adjust the volume of water that comes out when you click the 1cup or 2cup button.. so actually you can tweak things yourself which I have now done and feeling great! However that process even for a relatively experienced home barista took me quite a few hours and youtube videos.. a bag of beans getting it wrong.. but I have it now.. but if you are totally new, this could definitely be a barrier for you.. but it can be overcome if your heart is in it =)

Overall very happy.. just need to see what the longjevity is like, the more electronics on a machine the more risk I feel that things can fail.. but having had fancy brand machines in the past, I am very much a fan of the Breville range.

Good machine for home that delivers – With the Breville Smart Scoop BCI600 Ice Cream Maker we've been able to make home made ice cream with any flavour we want. My partner is professional… Read more

pastry chef, so that helped with the learning curve on how to use this. With some trial and error, we've been able to get out some tasty treats.

Pros:

Versatile Settings - offers a variety of hardness settings, allowing us to customize the texture of the ice cream. From soft serve to firm consistency - but it does take a few times to get used to.

Large Capacity - With a capacity of up to 1.5 liters, this ice cream maker can accommodate sizable batches, making it suitable for serving larger gatherings or households.

Cons:

Noise Level - During operation, the Breville Smart Scoop BCI600 emits noticeable noise, which may be disruptive in quieter environments or when used during gatherings.

Bulkiness - this ice cream maker occupies significant space on countertops and cannot be left on the bench at all times. It's quite bulky and a bit hard to move in and out when we need to use it.

Pre-Cooling Feature - The pre-cooling function of the Breville is supposed to accelerates the chilling process, reducing preparation time and enabling quicker dessert preparation - but it's not that great. We found it easier to just put the bowl in the freezer before use instead.

Price Point - this is priced higher than many basic ice cream makers. I'm not 100% certain it's worth the higher price point.

Conclusion: While the Breville Smart Scoop BCI600 Ice Cream Maker offers versatility and automation in ice cream making, it comes with drawbacks such as noise level, bulkiness, and higher price point. Despite this, I'm overall happy with the product, and it delivers what it's supposed to.

Overall Rating: 3.5/5

separates it from larger units. The density of the waffle is less and while that seems a negative, your using less batter mix than a conventional maker... but still getting a good product. I use a cooking oil spray on the plates before each use and cook near the full temp level. Its not fast but it also has a reasonable time for domestic use. Serving up as a whole or as individual pieces makes it versatile. I'm always a fan of appliances that don't take up too much cupboard real estate too.

Pretty happy – I've had the Multi Chef for more than 7 years although it's only been in the last few months that I've used it regularly. First, it was to cook rice,… Read more

and for that it does a great job. I use it several times a week for rice. Simply use the correct water & rice ratio, and the machine will turn itself off and beep when the rice is done. Much better than cooking on the stove top where you have to keep an eye on it and obviously turn it off when it's done, or in the microwave where it would always boil over and make a mess. I sometimes use the steamer basket to cook veggies at the same time as cooking rice, which is very handy and efficient. I also use the slow cooker low & high functions several times a week now, and most of the time I preface the slow cook with the sear/saute. I LOVE that there is a sear function on the machine so that I can brown meats and saute onions/garlic etc directly in the slow cooker, rather than having to dirty another pan. The sear could be a bit stronger, but all in all it's fine. I wish it had a timer/delayed start though, for the days when I go to the office but only need it to cook for a few hours. Without a delayed start, I'm restricted to recipes that require at least 8 hours of cooking. The non-stick coating on the inner pot insert is pretty cr*p though, it's totally scratched even though I only use silicone or wood utensils. I think the bones of meat sitting in the pot is enough to scratch it. Luckily it is possible to buy a replacement pot as a spare part - I think that's really important and it's great that Breville offers this, rather than forcing consumers to throw away the whole unit because of one damaged part.

Edited to add on 3/4/2024: My machine has stopped working now, after owning it for 8 years and using it regularly for 1 year. The heating element stopped heating. I won't repurchase because of the non-stick coating on the inner pot, which flakes too easily and I can't imagine how much of it has gotten into our food. That was by far my biggest complaint about this machine. I would easily have repurchased it if the inner pot was stainless steel.

toaster in one would be a space saver, and it is.

For the functions we use, it works well and cooks evenly and quickly. It's very easy to use thanks to the large display and well thought out user interface.

The included accessories are perfect for most uses and little features like the magnet rack catch are handy.

My negatives are the same as everyone else, cleaning... It gets a lot of use in our house, sometimes multiple times a day and can get quite grubby - The drip tray and racks are easy enough, but the rest is a pain - to be honest, I just wipe off what I can and leave it, but it would be nice if there was some sort of way to stop drips hitting the element covers.

I'd buy another if this one gave up though, so it's mostly positives.
