Disappointing experience – I would not recommend using this service. I booked RedBook Inspect to complete a pre-purchase vehicle inspection on a car… Read more
I was considering buying. Unfortunately, during the inspection, the vehicle was externally damaged.
RedBook Inspect did acknowledge responsibility for the damage and agreed to cover the cost of repairing the vehicle, which I appreciate. However, my experience with the handling of the claim afterwards has been extremely disappointing.
I was asked to obtain quotes for a hire vehicle while the repair process was being organised. After providing the requested information, I was later advised that my claim for hire vehicle costs would be refused. This means that, despite RedBook Inspect accepting responsibility for causing the damage, I would be left out of pocket for the cost of alternative transport during the estimated four-day repair period.
I believe this is an important consideration for anyone booking a vehicle inspection. A vehicle inspection is intended to provide confidence and peace of mind, but if damage occurs during the inspection process, customers should be aware that the company’s responsibility may be limited to the direct repair costs only.
I would encourage anyone considering using this company to carefully read the terms and conditions before booking an inspection. Although the company may cover the cost of repairing damage they cause, there may be limitations around other losses or expenses that occur as a result.
I would also suggest that anyone selling a vehicle carefully considers whether they are comfortable having their vehicle inspected by this company. A vehicle inspection should provide confidence to both buyers and sellers, and damage occurring during an inspection can create a very stressful situation for everyone involved.
Another concern was that RedBook Inspect did not handle the matter through insurance, meaning I was required to deal directly with the company rather than through an insurance process. This left me navigating the consequences of an incident that was not my fault.
Overall, while I acknowledge that RedBook Inspect accepted responsibility for the physical damage, the way the claim has been managed afterwards has left me disappointed. Based on my experience, I would not choose to use this service again and would recommend others carefully consider the potential risks before booking an inspection.

weeks ago. Didn't fine me or give me a notice. So I called Sheen at Bayswater on Friday, spoke with Sid who said bring it in after work. Thinking a quote would cost me $$$$ Sid greeted me, took a look and manipulated the panel back into place, screwed in the end and job done. No charge. That was a very very generous thing to do and I really appreciate it. So relieved in the end but this is the type of service which goes a long long way to knowing if I need them (hopefully not) then I know where to go straight off. Thanks again Sid, much appreciated and I want your employer to know this has not gone unnoticed.

Overpriced EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE I engaged ACE Mechanics to fit an aftermarket horn that I supplied to my Mitsubishi Triton. Before… Read more
booking the work, I received a written estimate from ACE for $144.50, comprising a $95 call-out fee and a labour component clearly described on their own document as:
“Labour per hour — $49.50.”
Their estimate also stated:
“Will quote further works when vehicle and work required is assessed on site.”
What happened next was extraordinary.
After completing the installation, the technician attempted to charge me $536.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Estimate: $144.50. Attempted charge: $536.
At no stage after assessing my vehicle did the technician provide me with the “further” quote referred to in ACE’s own estimate or tell me beforehand that the job was going to cost anywhere remotely near $536.
I refused to pay that amount and, after disputing it with the technician, the charge was reduced to $437, which I paid.
When I subsequently complained to ACE, I was informed that the $49.50 shown on their estimate supposedly wasn’t actually an hourly labour rate. According to ACE, it represented a 15-minute increment, making their actual labour rate $198 per hour.
There’s just one rather significant problem with that explanation:
Their written estimate literally says “Labour per hour — $49.50.”
ACE has argued that its accompanying email explains that some estimates may contain time-based rates such as 15-minute increments. However, the estimate supplied specifically for my job describes $49.50 as “Labour per hour”, not “per 15 minutes”, while simultaneously stating that further work would be quoted after assessment.
It gets worse.
The horn subsequently stopped working. I took the vehicle to my regular mechanic, who rectified the problem, and the horn is now functioning again.
So my experience ultimately consisted of receiving a $144.50 estimate, being presented with an initial charge of $536, eventually paying $437, and then having to get the installation rectified afterwards.
ACE has since declined my request for a partial refund and maintains that its pricing was appropriate.
I’m leaving this review because consumers deserve to know exactly what my experience was before deciding whether to engage this company.
I have retained the original estimate, covering email, final tax invoice and subsequent correspondence with ACE, including their written explanation that the $49.50 labelled “Labour per hour” on their estimate was actually intended to represent 15 minutes.
I will now be referring the matter, together with that documentation, to Consumer Affairs Victoria.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend ACE Mechanics and will never use their services again.

cocaine. All his smash repairs were fire bombed by outlaw Bikie gangs last year, including his Portsea house. Has been stabbed and had drive by shootings from bikers as well.
He steals your car by posting dodgy adds on Google when he needs work, so when you google your insurance company you end up calling his shop instead, they play along taking your claim then send themselves out to steal your car making you hand it to them with no idea what they doing.
7 news just had Australian actor Christe Browne on asking for help as they stole her car with this advertising scam.
By the time you find out your Insurance company don't have your car it it's too late. He will not return your car, and continues on scamming the Insurance company over charging on repairs and hire car. If there is a problem and he doesn't get paid he keeps your car until you pay the bill which could be tens of thousands, if you don't pay he sells it off for parts.

FYI we have been using Mycar for around 5 years and they have been a cheap but reliable option, however... aftet the last service, my wife's car… Read more
engine failed weeks after being serviced by MyCar, a much loved car in otherwise great running order. I contacted MyCar, had it booked in and has been sitting at the service centre for months now. They took a week to diagnose it - engine has no compression (no reason why/how). No loan car. Have had to purchase another car so that my wife can get to work and take our child to school. After taking the car to MyCar we are now $20,000+ out of pocket - yes, that is 20k for what we would normally budget for as a $600 service. Was following up every week having been told that I will be looked after but we have not heard anything for weeks. The phone consistently rings out with no answer. Also, their complementary road side assistance is useless. Wife and young young daughter left waiting at night on side of a dangerous road for hours after a blown tyre, despite a one hour ETA. Ended up fixing it myself after being told there would be another 2 hour wait. This has impacted massively on our day-to-day life - financially, stress, work etc. I cannot recommend this company and would avoid at all costs!
