Great value speaker for both indoor and outdoor use. Just make sure to adjust the equalizer in the app to get the best sound quality.

The sound quality is just incredible deep, punchy bass when you want it and crisp, clear tones from the speakers. The controls are easy to reach and adjust, though I rarely need to. It’s one of those products that just works perfectly every day.

quality for AUD $15. Very easy to use, just slap phone on. Curious to see if it'll work with iPads, doubt it, but hopefully one will come that can do both. Very pleased. Better than some Bluetooth speakers I've spent 50+ on. Great for conferences on the go and such.

They have no way to verify their customers other than using a stupid email, this ridiculous. BOOM; loud, proud, compact and easy to use, truly pulsating bass and crystal clear vocals make the JBL Charge 5 a real hit. Astounding value, this… Read more

Bluetooth speaker is also waterproof, dust proof and runs for up to 20 hours; there's even a built in powerbank! While the days of JBL traditional floorstanding loudspeakers maybe in the past, the Charge 5 is here to reignite the glory days in a nice, neat little bundle. Yes, of course we aren't genuinely comparing it to old school speakers; JBL have of course modernised their range. But for $200 dollars? Oh behave, darling-- you simply shouldn't sound so good. Party on dear, and let us get better acquainted :)

Feature review JBL (owned by US company Harman, parent company of brands including Bang and Olufsen & AKG) have a rich history in audio, making hi-fidelity loudspeakers when they were still a thing. How times have changed, but the memory still very much remains and with products like this, JBL continue to stun. One of the best presents I've ever received, but if I had a choice, I would have had a Bose; I'm not here to praise for the sake of it. Although if the truth be told, the listening experience was nothing short of a musical revelation. But don't just take my word for it; upon finding the box earlier, I noticed a 5 star review from What Hi Fi? which is high praise indeed. They are a UK based (popular but critical) Hi Fi magazine that I always used to buy but haven't read in years! A simple, $175 Bluetooth speaker, but nothing simple about the sound; super loud and proud, bass has a low end thud, vocals have great clarity and there's remarkable detail in the sound; take my word for it, I guarantee that you will be hearing parts in songs you've never even heard before! Before delving into a few of the finer details, don't forget where possible to listen to this speaker at ear level; which if you are sitting down on the sofa will be different from if you are walking around the house or in the kitchen. Who cares? some may say, but if sound matters to you, you'll know this basic audio rule will enhance your listening experience (even on a $175 dollar Bluetooth speaker). Ideal for parties, it's waterproof and dust proof, has up to 20 hours play time and has a built in power bank for charging.

Where the JBL excels is with modern pop - try a bit of Bieber such as Hold On / Friends, Zayn with There You Are or Dua Lupa with Let Me Be The One / Cool. It really brings out the vocals and the atmospheric melodies of these songs. To highlight the bass, give Charlie Puth ( Attention) or Miley Cyrus (Midnight Sky) a whirl. To highlight all out groove, fire up Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand or Young Blood by 5 Seconds of Summer.

We also found it packed serious punch with dance pop / trance such as Encore Une Fois (Sash); showcasing those archetypical programmed beats so well you feel you are being catapulted back into some 90s festival, party or club.

From a similar era, rap such as Revolution by Kirk Franklin also highlights the beats, gospel and R'n'B vibes impressively. Switching grooves, the JBL is equally at home with the searing vocals and colossal violins of Shatter Me (Lindsey Stirling Featuring Lzzy Hale) or the more alternative Beautiful Things by Benson Boone, or Lights Out by Royal Blood. On an ultra critical note, did find that piano didn't have the sort of impact I was expecting (keyboards certainly did.) Shifting ears to something heavier, and the all out rasp and thrill of Metallica's Enter Sandman is simply emphatic, the intro drum kicks stealing the limelight before everything chugs into gear and takes your breath away. Simple to use, you can launch the JBL by a quick click on the Bluetooth function and then by holding down for a few seconds on the switch. You then open Bluetooth and search for devices on your device, and click on the JBL. There's also a volume and a pause button. It comes in multiple colours. Unfortunately, it's not going to work everywhere as it's dependent on Bluetooth and Wi Fi etc, but that's not going to affect the rating as we are judging on ease of use and sound quality. Also, a night mode would be good for toning down that sublime low end rumble. Overall, this puts the boom into box and absolutely smashes it; a fantastic gift for someone special, this shouldn't sound this good!

VAF DC-X Original Kit – I bought the VAF DC-X 20 years ago as a kit (time goes FAST). For a few years after a move they sat in my garage and where even damaged … Read more

(isolated rips in the rubber surrounds in the drivers ). I bought a set a Jamo's and also had a good quality computer audio system setup and used those in the years the VAFs where in storage. I thought they sounded good, until I recently pulled the VAF's out and wired them up, bi amped to my Denon. You don't realise what you are missing with audio .. until you do. I've gone from cardboard under water to crystal mid - highs and deep round bass, I can hear the tone of the bass amp used in the recordings. I am planning to get the speakers refurbished but even as they are after 20 years I am very happy. There is so much cheap crap around and you tend to just get use to it. In some ways we are going backwards accepting the quality of cheap crappy stuff.

the speakers unusable and I have since replaced them with a cheaper set of Logitech speakers. This happened after about 10 months for the first set and I contacted customer care who replaced the speakers. That process was good. However, the second set did exactly the same after 2 months. I went through *all* of the trouble shooting tips (different power source, different computers, trialing different speakers etc). My previous Bose Companion speakers (from the 90s) worked perfectly. This is a dud product. And for a company does one thing (sound), I'm amazed that they haven't fixed this well-known issue with the product (check out reviews on the Bose Australia website as well).

thought about them they sound excellent while listening to music and with movie sound tracks. Best money I’ve ever spent. Personally I think these speakers make remastered older music almost sound like it’s new These speakers I think are what I would call balanced, not sharp on the ears and not dull But a full range the sound quality is awesome of course it all on the source files your playing content from, I also have an epicentrix centre speaker and the vocal quality is absolutely amazing I can’t turn it up super loud it’s all being run by a Yamaha RXA3070 pre amp I’m thinking about an 7 channel Elektra power To feed them. If you have a good budget and are able to get a pair you will not regret it.

crisp and bass isn’t deep enough to replace a small sub.

Because of the internal equaliser this speaker doesn’t suit any studio work as it will not play raw sound. This internal equaliser suits newer music like pop/rnb/electro more than classical and classic rock etc.

Will be loud enough to use in a small room but not likely for a house party.

underpowered so later upgraded to a 9.2 Yamaha system with bi-amp / bi-wire feature, connected as normally first they sounded great so much better then decided to set up via bi-amp / bi-wire to see the difference & the speakers came alive with noticeably more bass, but also mid & highs which were much more obvious, my home theatre setup is now complete & has that punch it was missing, totally wrapped. I don’t claim to be an audio expert, but I think some people purchase based on price or name thinking higher price always means better sound or quality, well I purchased these for under $500 & sound better then some speakers I’ve brought costing 5 times the price. Definitely exceed my expectations.
