I was charged $842.66 for replacing a single valve, which after researching local Brisbane pricing seems significantly higher than normal for this type of repair. The invoice was not itemised beyond “Supply and Install Expansion Control Valve 15mm”, so there was no clear breakdown for labour, callout or parts. I would strongly recommend getting multiple quotes and asking for a detailed price breakdown before approving work.

they couldn’t come until I did but I never got it. 2 Plumbers turned up and told me it’s a $250 call out fee but if I get them to do the work it will be taken off the price. They checked and confirmed they shouldn’t have been on site without my confirmation, also told me payment was due on the day. They checked the unit and told me it had to be replaced as it was leaking a poisonous gas and couldn’t be switched back on. They made up a quote on an iPad and I signed and agreed as I had no idea about the actual price of anything, I also assumed by the size of the quote they would be on site for a long time. From when they arrived, checked the unit then replaced it and left was just over 2 hours, I checked this on my cameras. The total seemed very steep so I started checking prices which I should have done first. The hot water unit itself is $1100 but they charged $1700. The valves and bits of pipe are worth about $150 but they charged a total of $1938. As you can see instead of removing the $250 call out fee they decided to add another $395 “attendance” fee. They then threw on an admin fee of $190. $990 in Labor for just over 2 hours work. It took 3 emails back and forth to try and get this “itemized” invoice as they just send you a generic one. I did sign the quote as I assumed this was a trustworthy company. I should have called and got a few more quotes, please don’t make the mistake I did and use this company.

followed was multiple missed appointments for both measuring and installation, countless hours wasted waiting around, and more than 40 texts and phone calls trying to chase updates and them rescheduling. Every missed appointment came with another excuse.

The job is now well overdue and far outside the original 7–10 working day guarantee.

When they finally arrived, they turned up hours late, completed roughly 25% of the job, then left saying they’d return the next day. They came back three days later and supposedly “completed” the work.

The "finished" job is rough, and now water pours across the floor and floods the bathroom every time the shower is used. I seriously question whether the installation even complies with Australian standards.

To make matters worse, I’m now still stuck in the ongoing cycle of calls and messages trying to get the issues rectified and the job properly completed.

I’m 33 years old and have never left a Google review before, but this experience was bad enough to warrant one. Extremely unprofessional from start to finish.

Also worth noting that although there are plenty of 5-star Google reviews, there also seems to be multiple new 5-star reviews appearing every single day, which does look somewhat suspicious.

Happy to amend or remove this review if the outstanding issues are properly resolved, but at this stage I would not recommend The Plumbing Gang.

water suggested the Evo 270-E to suit our household of 3. We decided on the lesser priced unit HeatwaveE270 instead but they installed the more expensive unit and claimed it’s what we asked for. It wasn’t. Anywho, they later offered to return the following day to swap them over but by then we were done with the whole process so declined and copped the extra $. I’m sure the unit (while larger than we needed too) is great, the experience just left a bad taste in our mouth.
