a year for Home and Contents. I believe we have made two minor claims in those years. This year the renewal came in with a $700 increase! Of course, we rang them and asked them why, they explained due to the fires and floods in the Eastern States. I reiterated that the property was insured in South Australia and these unfortunate evens shouldn't impact on us. I asked them to do better. The agent left me on the phone saying he was going to speak to his manager. In the meantime, whilst on the phone for 45mins, I was searching on the Web for other quotes from various Insurers. When the agent came back onto the phone, he apologised and told me the cheapest they could do was to take $400 off the yearly cost. I let him know (and to pass the information back to his supervisor), that whilst we had been on the phone I found three well-known Insurers who were half the price of their Policy and we had increased the value of our property, effectively doubling what they were insuring us for. I told him to cancel our policy at the end of the month, and we went with one of the other Insurers. You can do better people, just shop around! Cheers

Simple, digital-first insurance with room to grow. After managing my home insurance with Everyday Insurance for the past year, I’ve found them to be… Read more

a solid choice for anyone who prioritizes simplicity and value over a 'high-touch' concierge experience.

What I love:

The Digital Experience: The online portal is arguably one of the best in the market. It’s clean, intuitive, and—most importantly—it works. I can access my Certificate of Currency or update my details in seconds without needing to navigate through endless menus.

Pricing: You’re paying for a streamlined product, and the premiums reflect that. It’s competitive, and I appreciate that I’m not paying for features or services I don't use.

Transparency: The Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) is refreshingly clear. I didn't feel like I needed a law degree to understand what I was and wasn't covered for, which builds immediate trust.

Where it could be better:

Support Accessibility: While the self-service tools are great, the few times I’ve needed to speak to a human, the wait times were a bit frustrating. If they can bring that human support speed up to match their digital speed, it would be a perfect service.

App Features: The mobile experience is currently just a window into the website. I’d love to see more 'active' features, like a digital inventory tool or a faster way to initiate a claim via the camera.

The Verdict: If you are tech-savvy, organized, and prefer to manage your policy on your own terms, Everyday Insurance is an excellent, no-fuss option. It’s reliable, transparent, and gets the job done without any unnecessary friction. I’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for a modern, straightforward approach to home protection.

contacted Apia to find out how to cancel the insurance. We were told it was best to ring back after settlement was finalised. We did that however we were then told nothing could be done until they received documents proving we had the authority to cancel the policy. Fair enough although we we had been paying the policy for over 12 months). If they had told us that on the earlier phone call we could have already sent the documents. Each time we tried to ascertain what documents were needed we were given different answers. We emailed power of attorney and were then told we needed to send the death certificate and the certificate of probate. We did that. We received an email back saying more information was needed. It was clear that the email and attachments we had sent to Apai hadnt been read or understood by the 'assisted digital specialist' because all of the information they were asking for had already been sent. We sent another email pointing out that the information had already been sent. Thankfully we had a different 'specialist' reply and they acknowleged that Apia did have all of the necessary information and the policy would be cancelled. We are now waiting on final confirmation of the cancellation and refund of last payment. (Hopefully that would happen in the next few days) The inconsistent information, the lack understanding of the law and basic compassion made cancelling the policy a much more stressing situation than it needed to be.

offered a $200 VISA Gift Card on my initial saved quote, but automatically removed it the day after when I tried to review the quote again to proceed. Support is an absolute joke: live chat was down, the phone representative [Name Removed] couldn't assist and redirected me to an email, the email support [Name Removed] replied saying they don't handle this and told me to call back or use the live chat. Live chat is back online and [Name Removed] can't seem to keep up (wants me to create an account, can't edit the quote, telling me to create a new quote [offer now not showing up on that], stuck in a loop where they still won't honour their own promotion).

Dodgy, deceptive and misleading business conduct that just wastes customer time and should be reported to AFCA/Fair Trading. If this is how they handle simple pre-sale inquiries, I'd hate to see how they handle a claim...

DO NOT SIGN UP TO RAC FOR HOME & CONTENTS INSURANCE. I am currently going through a dispute with RAC over a storm/power event, and I am absolutely… Read more

appalled by the way my claim has been handled.

RAC has actually relied on the fact that there was no visible scorching on the printer’s circuit boards as part of its reasoning for concluding that the printer was not damaged by a power surge.

Meanwhile, multiple smaller electrical items affected during the same event were accepted as storm-related damage, yet two of the highest-value items have been declined.

I have now asked RAC to provide the technical evidence, testing and expert reports supporting its conclusions, including the basis for using the absence of visible PCB scorching to exclude surge damage.

I will also be escalating the matter to AFCA and intend to contact media outlets about my experience and the evidence relied upon in assessing this claim.

Consumers pay insurance premiums expecting genuine claims to be assessed fairly and on proper evidence. In my experience, this process has left me seriously questioning RAC's claims-handling practices.

The irony is that the reputational damage caused by treating customers this way can ultimately cost a company far more than properly assessing and paying legitimate claims.

I have been a long-term Suncorp customer and have purchased multiple landlord insurance policies with Suncorp over many years. I have always paid my… Read more

premiums and rarely made claims. However, after recently making claims and experiencing how Suncorp handled them, I am extremely disappointed and have completely lost confidence in this product.

The first issue I experienced involved a shower leak at my property. The tenant did not notify me or my property manager about the issue. Instead, the tenant attempted to repair it without my knowledge or approval, which resulted in further damage. I had no opportunity to identify the problem early or arrange a proper repair.

Despite this, Suncorp advised that the damage was excluded under the policy and declined the claim. This was extremely frustrating because this is exactly the type of unexpected situation landlords purchase insurance to protect against. If a tenant’s actions result in damage becoming worse without the landlord even knowing, it is very disappointing to find that the insurance does not provide support.

The second issue involved a tenant who stopped paying rent and left the property during a fixed-term lease. My property manager acted quickly to find a replacement tenant and minimise the loss. However, because the rental loss period was less than four weeks, Suncorp advised that the rent loss was not covered.

I was extremely surprised by this limitation. As a landlord, rental loss after a tenant leaves is one of the main reasons for purchasing landlord insurance. If a professional property manager does their job well and reduces the loss period, it should not result in the landlord receiving no support at all.

I was also advised that rubbish left behind by the tenant and cleaning costs were not covered. These costs can be significant, and the landlord bond is often not enough to fully cover rubbish removal, professional cleaning and restoring the property.

After paying thousands of dollars in annual premiums, I have to ask: what exactly am I paying for?

What concerns me the most is that these important limitations are not clearly highlighted when customers purchase the policy. These are not minor details — they directly affect whether a landlord receives any benefit when something goes wrong.

Instead, customers are expected to find these restrictions buried inside lengthy PDF documents and Product Disclosure Statements. Suncorp’s response was that “the information is in the PDS” and customers should read it themselves. However, important exclusions and limitations should be clearly presented at the point of purchase so customers can make an informed decision about whether the product is suitable for them.

I also recently tried to cancel another Suncorp insurance policy shortly after discovering these issues, just a few days after the cooling-off period ended. I was disappointed that Suncorp still charged a significant amount of premium and treated this as simply the customer’s responsibility.

In my view, if a product contains important limitations that are not clearly communicated upfront, the responsibility should not simply be pushed back onto the customer. Customers deserve transparency and clear information before committing to an insurance product.

After many years as a loyal Suncorp customer, I no longer trust Suncorp Landlord Insurance and will be moving my policies elsewhere.

Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend Suncorp Landlord Insurance to other landlords.

the very next day. The issue has taken many phone calls and an official complaint but I finally got my money today, almost 3 months later. I put this down mainly to the initial staff member (who I checked in with multiple times) taking no action other than "I've emailed unclaimed moneys again". Neither he nor 'unclaimed money' department followed up with me in any way.

Later TIO staff I spoke to were helpful and the complaints person from Allianz was friendly. That said I'm a bit miffed that the Allianz compliant staff member said the long delay was due to me giving the wrong address. This could be addressed in minutes, months ago, by letting me know they needed my old address, rather than my current one. Pretty basic stuff given that I had already told them that the cheque had been lost due to it being sent to my old address where I lived in the Territory.

Apologies to the the staff that were friendly for the 1 star I but didn't get any indication that there would be any changes on their end going forward to avoid this happening again to other customers.

had MUCH lower premiums than other companies. My first premium for both home AND contents was under $400!! How they do that, I'm not sure so I was a bit unsure at first and read the policy very carefully. It looks ok to me in comparison to others and for the cover we need. Each year I've done another evaluation and they still come out on top. It sounds like the other reviewers on this site who actually have cover with Australian Unity (Calliden) have good experiences with claims as well, so hopefully if that time comes for me I will be equally satisfied. I did have a very long phone conversation yesterday to discuss the policy in detail and was extremely impressed by the Calliden representative. She was very friendly, well informed and never made me feel rushed.

The only company that was close to comparison in price was Cominsure (now the top canstar company) but they have very bad customer reviews. The only downside I can see so far is that they only have 1 excess for home and contents (so can't be less for contents)- but on the good side, you only pay the one excess even if your claim involves both. Now I'm just trying to get the most accurate estimate of building, demolition and architect costs so I can be sure we have the right amount of cover. Value for money, inexpensive, good customer service Only 1 excess for both home and contents
