Three days later, I had still not received anything, so I followed up. To my disappointment, I was informed that there was no pending quote in the system and that I would need to provide all my details again if I wanted a quote.
The most frustrating part was the amount of time spent on the initial call, only to find out that no quote had been processed. I had even provided positive feedback in the survey based on the service during the call, but unfortunately the promised quote never arrived.

a solid choice for anyone who prioritizes simplicity and value over a 'high-touch' concierge experience.
What I love:
The Digital Experience: The online portal is arguably one of the best in the market. It’s clean, intuitive, and—most importantly—it works. I can access my Certificate of Currency or update my details in seconds without needing to navigate through endless menus.
Pricing: You’re paying for a streamlined product, and the premiums reflect that. It’s competitive, and I appreciate that I’m not paying for features or services I don't use.
Transparency: The Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) is refreshingly clear. I didn't feel like I needed a law degree to understand what I was and wasn't covered for, which builds immediate trust.
Where it could be better:
Support Accessibility: While the self-service tools are great, the few times I’ve needed to speak to a human, the wait times were a bit frustrating. If they can bring that human support speed up to match their digital speed, it would be a perfect service.
App Features: The mobile experience is currently just a window into the website. I’d love to see more 'active' features, like a digital inventory tool or a faster way to initiate a claim via the camera.
The Verdict: If you are tech-savvy, organized, and prefer to manage your policy on your own terms, Everyday Insurance is an excellent, no-fuss option. It’s reliable, transparent, and gets the job done without any unnecessary friction. I’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for a modern, straightforward approach to home protection.

I contacted real insurance and they said that it was GST plus cost of repairs or replacement for claims ???? Wth. contacted Apia to find out how to cancel the insurance. We were told it was best to ring back after settlement was finalised. We did that however we were then told nothing could be done until they received documents proving we had the authority to cancel the policy. Fair enough although we we had been paying the policy for over 12 months). If they had told us that on the earlier phone call we could have already sent the documents. Each time we tried to ascertain what documents were needed we were given different answers. We emailed power of attorney and were then told we needed to send the death certificate and the certificate of probate. We did that. We received an email back saying more information was needed. It was clear that the email and attachments we had sent to Apai hadnt been read or understood by the 'assisted digital specialist' because all of the information they were asking for had already been sent. We sent another email pointing out that the information had already been sent. Thankfully we had a different 'specialist' reply and they acknowleged that Apia did have all of the necessary information and the policy would be cancelled. We are now waiting on final confirmation of the cancellation and refund of last payment. (Hopefully that would happen in the next few days) The inconsistent information, the lack understanding of the law and basic compassion made cancelling the policy a much more stressing situation than it needed to be.

necessarily match competitors, but I did expect a clear explanation of why my premium had increased so significantly.
Over several weeks, I repeatedly asked policy-specific questions and requested information that would help me make an informed decision before my renewal date. Suncorp advised they would conduct a "policy health check" to review my cover and explore my options, but I never received an update. Instead, I had to follow up myself just days before my policy was due to renew, only to receive more generic responses that still didn't answer my questions.
By the time Suncorp finally provided the personalised explanation I had been asking for, my renewal date had already passed and I had already arranged cover with another insurer. Ironically, it was only after I advised that I was cancelling my policy that I received prompt, detailed responses and had a complaint lodged on my behalf.
My frustration isn't just with the premium increase, it’s with the customer service. If the level of attention I received after cancelling had been provided when I first asked for help, I may have been able to make a properly informed decision before my renewal date. Instead, the response came too late.
It has now been six weeks since I first contacted Suncorp and nearly a week since I requested cancellation of my policy, yet I still haven't received confirmation that my cancellation has been processed. Overall, the experience has left me with very little confidence in Suncorp's customer service.

vulnerable, they do not care. They wont pay us enough to be able to put ourselves back into pre destruction state. They also refuse to pay for temporary accomodation while the house is unlivable and dangerous despite GIO destroying our property through their negligence and conduct, and then leaving us essentially homeless and without contents.
GIO are part of the Suncorp group which also includes AAMI, Suncorp and Shannons insurance amongst others. Please do your research very carefully if looking to insure with this group. They seem to spend more energy denying and delaying claims than doing what is noted in the PDS.
I cant say this enough times….GIO have destroyed our health, our property and our lives over many years and they do not care.
The Australian public need to be made more aware of how many claims are mishandled and swept under the carpet, how many complaints are made internally with insurers and how many of those are forced to go to AFCA or drop off. How many people just give up because they cant fight or don’t know how to fight an insurer. How many claimants have been tricked by insurers during claims and don't even know it, because they trusted the insurer and the assessors and the often corrupted insurer panel contractors who get most - if not all their work from insurers. The public need to start demanding via MPs a return to a government run home insurer so we have a choice to move away from the misconduct that is enabled within the overly greedy and non transparent private sector. The insurance premiums might also be better with a govt insurer as the annual salary might not be anything like what Suncorp CEO [Name Removed] took home last year - a whopping $6.3 million which includes a $2 million bonus. These types of undeserved salaries and bonuses are why victims of insurance are ABUSED by insurers. They will blame it on weather events and shareholders but who’s tracking the costs for what insurers waste on misconduct to worm their way out of legit claims? No one! WHO is tracking the unethical and criminal panel contractors and their shonky reports and repairs? No one - GIO goes silent when busted. Who is also tracking the health damage insurers cause during their claims misconduct? No one! Im aware of numerous people left homeless, in final stages of life, kids sleeping in tents for extensive periods in all types of weather and CEO’s being fully aware, many with severe mould illness, disabled and elderly people left abandoned, many having mental breakdowns - all because insurers refuse to behave during claims handling. This needs to stop.

the very next day. The issue has taken many phone calls and an official complaint but I finally got my money today, almost 3 months later. I put this down mainly to the initial staff member (who I checked in with multiple times) taking no action other than "I've emailed unclaimed moneys again". Neither he nor 'unclaimed money' department followed up with me in any way.
Later TIO staff I spoke to were helpful and the complaints person from Allianz was friendly. That said I'm a bit miffed that the Allianz compliant staff member said the long delay was due to me giving the wrong address. This could be addressed in minutes, months ago, by letting me know they needed my old address, rather than my current one. Pretty basic stuff given that I had already told them that the cheque had been lost due to it being sent to my old address where I lived in the Territory.
Apologies to the the staff that were friendly for the 1 star I but didn't get any indication that there would be any changes on their end going forward to avoid this happening again to other customers.

had MUCH lower premiums than other companies. My first premium for both home AND contents was under $400!! How they do that, I'm not sure so I was a bit unsure at first and read the policy very carefully. It looks ok to me in comparison to others and for the cover we need. Each year I've done another evaluation and they still come out on top. It sounds like the other reviewers on this site who actually have cover with Australian Unity (Calliden) have good experiences with claims as well, so hopefully if that time comes for me I will be equally satisfied. I did have a very long phone conversation yesterday to discuss the policy in detail and was extremely impressed by the Calliden representative. She was very friendly, well informed and never made me feel rushed.
The only company that was close to comparison in price was Cominsure (now the top canstar company) but they have very bad customer reviews. The only downside I can see so far is that they only have 1 excess for home and contents (so can't be less for contents)- but on the good side, you only pay the one excess even if your claim involves both. Now I'm just trying to get the most accurate estimate of building, demolition and architect costs so I can be sure we have the right amount of cover. Value for money, inexpensive, good customer service Only 1 excess for both home and contents
