very long time. In the end, I couldn’t even claim back one dollar for a general health check. As a customer who has paid premiums for so long, I expected a smoother process and at least some support. Unfortunately, this experience made me feel like the insurance wasn’t worth it. I'm trying to cancel the insurance but seems very difficult. overrepresented in this breed and I have lost 2 Shephard's previously to the condition. My wife and I had travelled from the Gold Coast to Helensburgh near Sydney to visit one of our sons and took 2 dogs along. On the day following our arrival I noted Solomon seemed lethargic in the afternoon after being very normal late morning and I checked his gums for sign of snake bite and then his stomach for potential GDV, His stomach was bloated and I could feel the twist. We rushed him to the ARH Emergency Vet Hospital in Wollongong and they triaged Solomon on arrival and prepared him for surgery. The staff who were brilliant assisted with contacting Guide Dogs and within minutes, we had pre-approval for the treatment. This rapid outcome was the best news along with the ARH surgeons quick assessment and I left the hospital with the confidence that I didn't need to worry about the cost or the level of treatment Solomin would receive. Solomon's had 4 days in intensive care and pulled through and is now recovering at home on the Gold Coast. He was discharged from the hospital in a very seamless process and all I needed to do was cover the gap.
I changed to Guide Dogs after a rejected claim from another insurer when Solomon was 7 months old and have been with Guide Dogs ever since (he'll be 8 in June) for multiple pets and this isn't my first claim with Guide Dogs.
If you are shopping around for an insurance option for your pet, I'm more than happy to recommend Guide Dogs.

get something incredibly simple — new quotes for my pets — and instead have been sent in circles with inconsistent and contradictory information from multiple staff.
I was told:
I couldn’t get quotes unless I paid “arrears” But I wasn’t actually in arrears And even when clarified, no one could provide a straight answer
Every response felt like a template, not an actual attempt to resolve the issue.
The biggest concern is the complete lack of transparency:
You cannot get clear pricing without jumping through hoops You are pushed toward reinstating old policies rather than being given genuine options If you start a new policy, you lose all recognition of your pet’s history
So essentially, you’re locked in or penalised — which feels incredibly unfair.
I have multiple pets insured and a baby on the way — I don’t have time to chase basic information for weeks. Insurance should provide clarity and support, not stress and confusion.
The only “solution” offered was a goodwill gesture that still didn’t address my actual request.
I will be moving all policies elsewhere and strongly recommend others shop around before committing, as this experience has been nothing short of exhausting.

both an undetermined ED visit and surgery for Elbow dysplasia, which involved x-rays and CT scans under anaesthesia. The claims were settled online and with the Vet Clinic doing all the work and me just paying the gap. There were no issues or problems and everything worked very smoothly. More recently, my younger dog (3 years) has had major surgery for a Grade 4 MPL and is scheduled to have further surgery for a Grade 3 MPL as well. There was also a need for considerable scans to be taken as well, also under anaesthesia. The insurance claim was again handled by the Vet Clinic and I just paid the gap, which was much less than I thought it would be. There have been no issues at all with the insurance to date and everything has worked extremely well.

gold was $1,000 a year in GST. 2nd year auto-renewal (I missed) rose to over $1,600 in GST Who does a 60% increase? Year 3 they tried to renew for over $2,000 incl GST. When I called to cancel they offered a discount on the excessive $2,000 and bonus free months. No company can explain these increases by keeping up with CPI increases and even allowing for your pet ageing. If you pet lived to 10 years you would be up for $20,000 +. Yopu're better off finding the cash, even with vet bills being so high.

had never made a claim. The first claim we just did was knocked back stating that it was routine care. Apparently we had to have a different level of cover for this so I rang to arrange it. They say you cant change your insurance until the renewal. Then the woman puts me through to some dude and they must think I'm on hold as they're having a good old moan about this guy they have on the phone wanting his insurance fixed.
I told them I could hear them and I didn't want their help anymore. Cancelled.

but also stated the annual total would be deducted same day. Called to clarify and was directed to a call back service, so emailed as well. No response to either. Was debited the full $701 annual premium that night. Called again next day to get a refund, on hold for 20mins, finally got through and I was told the accounts person was not in that day, they would contact me next week. A week later, and two more emails from me, I’ve still not received a reply in any way let alone a refund. I’ve already lodged a complaint with the ACCC, but that does not get my money back. I’d steer well clear of these guys.
