for a quote, received a rate, paid a deposit, and then got a confirmation email with a higher rate. When I questioned it, they sent the original quote again — only to call the next day and say, “Oops, it’s actually a different rate,” but hey, they’d knock off $5 as a “favour.” How generous.

This kind of chaotic admin — or let’s be honest, shady bait-and-switch tactics — made it impossible to trust them. We cancelled the booking, but even that was a saga of multiple emails. And the kicker? They refused to refund the deposit, citing an admin fee. Apparently, I was paying for the same incompetence that made me cancel in the first place.

Later I found out they’ve got a warning from Consumer Affairs Victoria for unethical practices. Wish I’d checked sooner. Lesson learned: steer clear unless you enjoy paying for confusion and dishonesty.

later. I received an email 5 days later advising me that it had arrived in Perth. I had it kept in storage for 3 or 4 weeks while I bought a house. Everyone in this company was extremely helpful. We encountered two problems that were not related to Budget Self Pack Containers: the company we hired to load the container were not experienced in long distance removals and, consequently, some of our furniture was severely damaged because it was not loaded properly. It is imperative that you hire a team with experience in loading containers for cross country carriage. The second problem was that many white items (clothes, mattress, other items) had yellow discolouration when we unpacked them. We don't know why but put it down yellow dye on the carton branding or from dust encountered on the trip across the continent. So far, we have been able to remove the discoloration on the clothes. Nevertheless, Budget Self Pack Containers was fantastic.

After the realestate did an expecting they gave us a report that said there was so much cleaning left to do and that I WOULDN'T get my bond back unless cleaned. very professional and I had a good experience. So I didn’t have any hesitation to choose CityMove again in 2020 when I planned to move. However, I had a terrible experience this time. My booking of arrival time is 8:00am~9:00am, but no one turned up till 9:30am, so I called -- it seems they forgot to assign people for my booking. When the movers came late in the afternoon (after 1pm); they appears very tired, they told me they did 2 jobs already that's why they are exhausted. We were fine with this delay, but they were so careless with our furniture! The most horrible thing was that lots of our furniture was damaged. Including: - Our new Blackwood display cabinet, was scratched and with a hole! - Blackwood dinner table scratched; - TV unit scratched, and a piece of wood in one of the legs was chipped and gone; - Coffee table scratched; - 2 Wooden beds scratched. (I saw they had blankets/clothes in the truck, but they didn’t use them to protect my furniture. Even after I prompted them to be more careful. They still just roughly pushed the furniture into the truck.) I reported this to them on 17th Dec 2020, but no one replied me back.

piece out of a wall. We had to arrange for it to be repaired although Kent did pay for repairs. Packing was excellent. Pickup not so good. So slow with too many smokos, still loading when we had to leave at 6.00 pm as some of our furniture sat in the loading bay of the complex. Goods delivered to the Gold Coast early January. Expensive leather couch was damaged. It looks like damage would have been caused by the way it was handled by the packers on loading the truck or the way it was put into storage, not in transit or while in storage. It appears to have been human error in handling. We did have insurance but were told it was not covered because of excess. One of the buffets was also damaged. I understood insurance covered goods while in storage and in transit, not because of the way it was handled by loading staff. They get you to sign off on it all before you even have time to check everything with them. They were very expensive. So will never use them again. In comparison local firms take more care.

and instead we were left dealing with damaged belongings, poor handling, and a very frustrating insurance process.

The most serious issue was our Samsung television, which had been insured for $3,000 under the electronic items component of the policy. It was in perfect working condition before uplift, and even their supervisor photographed it at pickup with no defects noted. On delivery, the screen showed a white glow consistent with internal panel fracture from physical impact, and one of the TV legs was broken. This was obvious transit damage while the item was in their custody. Despite that, the claim was pushed back on the basis of “mechanical and electrical derangement,” which completely ignored the visible physical damage. That distinction was never clearly explained during the pre-move consultation, despite us being guided through the insurance process for over an hour. In the end, after all the stress and back-and-forth, we only recovered about $2,000, which covered the damaged lamps and TV only partially and nowhere near the true extent of what was lost and damaged.

Unfortunately, the TV was not the only issue. Several other items were returned in a condition that showed a clear lack of care. Our bicycle was damaged. Most of our plants, which we had specifically identified as extremely precious and were assured would be handled carefully, were returned damaged. Packing and unpacking standards were shockingly poor: a kitchen chopping board was packed together with shoes and developed mould, a computer docking station was placed inside a wet kitchen sink during unpacking, and an ottoman was packed with detergent powder and came back heavily contaminated. Handbags, books, art pieces, toys and other household items were also damaged.

This was not bad luck or a minor oversight. It reflected poor packing, careless handling, and inadequate unpacking practices throughout the move. The financial loss was significant, but so was the stress of seeing valuable and sentimental belongings treated so poorly.

What made the experience worse was the way the insurance issue was handled. Rather than taking responsibility for obvious physical transit damage, the response focused on technical policy wording that was never properly explained upfront. That may suit the company’s internal process, but from a customer perspective it felt like an attempt to avoid paying a legitimate claim.

I would not use this company again and would not recommend them to anyone moving valuable household belongings interstate. Based on our experience, the service did not match the level of care, professionalism, or accountability that was promised.

would not unload my beds I only have 3/4 of my stuff here! The guys work like slaves for very little money and I even wonder if it’s human trafficking. You will pay too much, the truck will be hours late, the truck will be too small for the job. It will require multiple trips like other reviews have said.
