living at the property during those 9 days and the main electricity switch was turned off.
I contacted OVO Energy to ask why I was being charged this amount. Unfortunately, they could not properly explain the bill. The only response I kept getting was that it was based on an “actual meter reading.”
If the meter reading is genuinely correct, I would like OVO to clearly explain how this amount of electricity was used when the property was empty and the main switch was turned off.
I expected OVO Energy to investigate the situation properly rather than simply repeating that the reading was an actual meter reading. Very frustrating customer service and billing experience.

to a time-of-use Sumo electricity plan after checking various providers on the Energy Made Easy government website. On my first bill, I noticed the periods of the day when they charge peak, shoulder, and off-peak rates are different from the charge windows advertised on their site (which redirects you to the Energy Made Easy website, which is the Australia-wide official listing of all the energy plans of all the energy providers at any point in time).
I contacted them by email (you have to wait, literally, hours to talk to them over the phone), pointing out the discrepancy and requesting them to recalculate the bill. After a whole week, they replied that "that is the price structure" and that they cannot recalculate the bill and change the usage charge windows in future bills to align with what is advertised on their website.
I'm contacting the energy ombudsman in my state and even consider pursuing a class action against them, as they must be using the same business practice with several unaware customers.

consumers migrated to extremely bad time of use plans that group suburbs, as one time of use rate to the detriment of the frugal users being stung by the greedy monied users e.g. EV chargers sucking the grid....etc etc. However Jeremy Matubis (My Energy Locals consultant) listened to my rant, agreed with me, and assured me that my single rate plan has two years moratorium - ie no change for two years and that I can disconnect remote access. Bravo Jeremy, you made an old crotechty man happy. Two years gives me time to work out any possible upgrades (or downgrades) and navigate power systems better. Very Happy. Thankyou Jeremy Matubis of Energy Locals. Good customer support. Andrew Tucker

around. When I was hit with a $1000+ bill for a 2 bdr apartment after being with them for 6 months I decided to leave them. They over estimated the final bill, made me take pictures of my meters and email them multiple times. I followed their instructions to the letter but they insisted I provide several pieces of additional information for them to adjust their final bill to me. Once this was adjusted I paid the final bill and THEN they took the original erroneous amount from my account despite me not opting for any direct debits in the past. I had to call to arrange a refund with no compensation at all. Just a sorry and a pat on the back as I leave this company forever.
Tldr: please avoid Dodo for your own piece of mind

began when I converted my residential property to solar. EnergyAustralia continued receiving the electricity I exported to the grid, but I was not being properly credited for it. Yes, the feed-in tariff is only around 3 cents per kWh, while at the same time I was being charged approximately 40 cents per kWh for electricity I used.
To make matters worse, my account had apparently been changed from residential to business. Instead of paying the residential daily supply charge of approximately $1.66 per day, I was being charged around $3 per day.
When this was eventually investigated, I received a refund of approximately $75 for the solar electricity that had not been credited. However, that did not properly address the additional daily charges I had been paying because the account was incorrectly left as a business account.
You would think fixing their own error would then be straightforward.
It wasn’t.
Instead of simply changing my property back to residential, I was required to go through another lengthy process to prove that my home was actually a residential property — even though it had previously been held by EnergyAustralia as residential before they changed it.
At one point I was even required to establish another business account, at the higher daily charge, so they could apparently then transfer it back to residential.
This became an absolute circus.
I then had to obtain documentation from my local council to prove the residential status of the property. Once I finally had everything together, I explained the financial impact this ongoing error was having and asked for the matter to be resolved urgently.
I was told it should be sorted within about 10 days, including the cooling-off period.
More than a month later — still nothing.
What makes the experience even more disappointing is that I had respectfully told EnergyAustralia that this was one of the worst customer service experiences I had encountered in some time. I also explained that I wanted the account corrected as quickly as possible so I could move to another provider.
Yet the delays have continued.
The most frustrating part is that I have been paying additional costs because of an error that was not mine in the first place, and resolving that error has required repeated phone calls, documentation, explanations and considerable time on my part.
I understand mistakes happen in business. What matters is how a company responds when something goes wrong.
In my experience, EnergyAustralia has made what should have been a relatively simple correction unnecessarily difficult, slow and expensive.
I am extremely disappointed with the service I have received.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend EnergyAustralia.
If minus five stars were available, that would be my rating.

$200. I moved out and wasn’t at the property for most that time caring for my dad who passed. My previous actual reading was less than the estimates. I have emailed and spoken to them and they are firm in saying it was an actual reading and the others were estimates. I keep reminding them that my last actual was less than the estimates and why was this one so high. I live alone, I am frugal with my electricity- I don’t use heating/cooling often (this was August so I wasn’t using anything), I barely was at the place and everything is switched off at the wall except the fridge. Why is this a common occurrence reading through these reviews? How can they keep getting away with it? I received my first bill at my new place with a new company and it is back to approximately $100 when I’ve been there the whole time using power. STAY AWAY! :( I’m struggling financially and this has been a huge blow and they just don’t care.

At the time, I thought I was getting a great deal for six months. However, an unexpected rental fee was later added that I was not made aware of when I accepted the offer.
I contacted customer service by phone and email to explain the situation, but unfortunately, the response I received was short, abrupt and dismissive. Rather than listening to my concerns or trying to resolve the issue, I was repeatedly told that I hadn’t signed up the way I explained.
My advice would be to carefully check for any rental fees, additional charges or add-ons before accepting an offer, and make sure everything is clearly explained upfront.
Unfortunately, my experience with customer service was extremely disappointing. I felt that the focus was more on being right than on actually listening to and helping the customer.

over a year. In May this year, I applied for electricity AND gas with engie. Electricity couldn't be connected, so I asked them to cancel my application. Couple of weeks later, they informed me that they connected the gas, without electricity!
At the time I contacted them and after a month of painful "communications" with engie, they said they cancelled my account. Nevertheless, they continued to send gas bills despite the fact that no gas was used whatsoever! Even worse, they DOUBLE CHARGED me for some of period !
So: - they have no knowledge of how it works in Australia. No house can function with gas WITHOUT electricity! - Very poor and misleading "communications" ! - They DOUBLE CHARGED me ! - They seem to think that every house in Australia that has gas, whether occupied or vacant, must pay for gas. TBut, tat same property was vacant for over a year and I paid not even 1 cent for gas.
I contacted them few days ago, they just responded with a useless email then stopped responding!
Over the years I dealt with so many other power providers and none of them did any of that. engie did it all in a couple of months !!!
I am going to put in a complaint against them with the energy and water ombudsman for their irregular behaviour and violating my consumer rights.
Stay away from engie... Australians deserve better than engie...
